I am not actually starting here. I just thought I&#8217;d acknowledge a book before the start.<\/p>\n<p>The book in question is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=theexaminedli-20&#038;path=tg\/detail\/-\/0156482401\/qid=1113377742\/sr=8-1\/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14?v=glance&#038;s=books&#038;n=507846\">Language in Thought and Action<\/a> and you should read it.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nI try to be scrupulous about making acknowledgements. If I borrow an idea from somewhere, I mention the source when I talk of the idea. <\/p>\n<p>But what if a bunch of ideas influences you so much that you use it virtually every time you think or write? You can&#8217;t help but be unfair to such those ideas, because you can&#8217;t possibly acknowledge them everytime you open your mouth. <\/p>\n<p><i>Language in Thought and Action<\/i> by S I Hayakawa is such a book. I will be using ideas and terms from the book very often, so I won&#8217;t spend more time explaining what the book is about, but you can read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=theexaminedli-20&#038;path=http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/reader\/0156482401\/ref=sib_fs_bod?p=S00N&#038;checkSum=dbhJNEgzALh1vhdv7Bg%2Fv04bbIB80E%2B27OoZRW2Ob9I%3D#reader-link\">first few pages here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is part of a series of posts on how I write.
