The thing I associate most with the United States is the font Helvetica, so ubiquitous is it. Someone has now made a movie on it.

Actually the most noticed font in the US if you take into account the highway signs is Highway Gothic..here is a very interesting article on the redesign of the highway font…

Thanks for the link. I haven’t traveled so much by US highways, but the thought did strike me to check. I agree that if you travel a lot by cars in the US, Highway Gothic would be associated with the US brand.
The MoMA has an ongoing exhibition on Helvetica. It is ubiquitous on NYC – on subways, bus shelters and just about everywhere else.
