That reminds me of a shameful period in our history.
I am referring to the blatant and absolutely uncalled for interference by Gandhiji into South Africa’s internal affairs. By what right did he, a foreigner, ask South Africa, a sovereign and independent nation, to change its internal policies towards Indians and blacks?
Besides, he was also guilty of hypocrisy. How could Indians possibly ask to be provided equal treatment with whites when they were openly discriminating against untouchables in their own country?
On occasion one gets the feeling that some of your posts are inspired by the Howard Stern school of literary and journalistic thought. On rare occasions, which is why this is still an excellent blog but even so.
Might I ask what special ‘right’ is required to *ask* (your words) the government of any nation to change its policies? Anyone is free to try and get anything changed anywhere- you’re just far more likely to be listened to if you live in a country.
And Mahatma Gandhi did not condone untouchability either. Furthermore, to use your own impeccable logic, the fact that Indians in India might discriminate against untouchability had nothing whatsoever to do with Indians in South Africa asking for equal treatment. After all, as someone once said, ‘The principle that you shouldn’t do the right thing once unless you do the right thing everytime is one impossible to uphold.’
Of course Gandhi in South Africa was quite as shameful as that horrendous period in human history when a bunch of foreign countries ganged up against Hitler just because he was discriminating against jews in his own homeland. Or the current blatant interest of the rest of the world in Sudan’s internal policies. Or the cruel, hypocritical injustice meted out to the Taliban by interfering foreigners. I am referring here not to the actual war itself (for of course Gandhi’s methods were non violent). But even to criticize the Taliban was quite quite unforgivable!

Whenever we talk about Narendra Modi we come up with riots, muslims, killings and so on and so forth. I dont blame people for their hate against Modi. The way media has been potraying Modi its pretty much an inevitable reaction from any sane human being. Under no situation can violence or mass murder be justified as a response or a reaction to the train carnage. Although people will come out with their own stories behind ever happenings during the riots but it really hurts when a muslim of my own country starts justifying the very existence of Pakistan as has been done by one of the fellows above. Afterall its our internal matter so we will try figure the problems out in our own democratic way.
As far as the election of Narendra Modi goes and him being communal, I think yeah he is communal and so are others and other parties even more. Its Sonia Gandhi who started with “Merchant of Death” comment which gave a communal perspective to the whole election. Modi took the opportunity and in return started with the Sohrabuddin case, and for gods sake dont tell me Sohrabuddin was a saint with no wrong doings. If it was a false encounter then its not of its first kind, it has happened in the past before in this country. And when you talk about riots what about the Sikh killings under Congress during 1984 and several other hindu-muslim riots during Congress tenure. What I am trying to say is that riots are pretty much an unfortunate byproduct of the India-Pakistan divide. I have nothing against Islam and neither do I have anything against the Muslims of this country. But its when a chunk of these muslim friends of mine who unite under the tag of “muslim brotherhood” as claimed by Osama, is when it hurts the most.
