It is raining heavily outside

… and it reminds me that the toughest thing about learning English to me wasn’t understanding the grammar. It was figuring out that words like “sunny” and “warm” are supposed to have good connotations and that “rainy” and “cold” are supposed to be bad. We Mumbaikars like it when it rains. I understand Britons hating rains. But for us, it gives respite from the summer and leaves just as we start getting bored of it. Plus, we get a holiday from school.

  1. My first Mumbai monsoon, and I’m lovin’ it! Funny, when I lived in Chennai, incessant rain would be a pain in the ass. Here, I guess it just fits in as part of the whole crazy package. 🙂

  2. My wife’s from Mumbai and she liked the monsoons. I’m unusual (for an English man) as I like the cooler – even the cold – weather and absolutely detest the summer. Rain is fine with me.

I returned to London from Mumbai in January this year and the temperature in Mumbai that day was 35C. I arrived in England 12 hours later to be greeted with snow. I was much happier.

  3. I love bombay and I love the monsoon in Bombay. But now im in bangalore working here and not much rain and I miss the rain. However its been raining very heavily in bombay thi season and its not good. I dont like rain at the cost of 1000 people’s life and everyone stranded. Hope life becomes normal in bombay. Yeh hai bombay meri Jaan.
