Now of course, when I had observed that the good blog names are all taken, I had not reckoned with the creativity of some smart people. I am referring, of course, to Aadisht’s blog, “Majorly shadymax arbit fundaes” which gives me a smile whenever I think of it. And he writes some amazing stuff too. Great analysis and great humour, all in one blog.
Then Kunal Sawardekar’s blog is named Ceteris Paribus which is Latin for “Other things remaining constant”. Good name too, especially if you are doing your masters in economics. He too is very very smart and writes engagingly.
What’s common between the two? Yes, they are smart, libertarian, and members of the Cartel. The moral of the story is that if you turn libertarian, your IQ will increase by 50 points. You will have a cool blog name and you will attain merit in this world and next.
Oh, and those who are wondering where and if I am writing non-nonsensical stuff, please head over to
Indian Economy, where I am arguing against regulation.
Why, thank you. Still, I have to point out that it is Maajorly, not Majorly.
Thank you sir, you are too kind.
>>”Good name too, especially if you are doing your masters in economics. ”
I hope the Universities I apply to see it that way 😉
Hi Ravikiran
Well, obviously, the Examined Life is an excellent blog title. I actually found another blog with that title (which they subsequently changed, no doubt out of respect for you).
Could someone please explain what “Maajorly Shadymax Arbit Fundaes” means? I haven’t a clue.
Michael, it is very difficult to give an exact translation, but you are lucky, as you will be going to Chennai in a few days. Go to IIT Madras and try to hang around with the students a bit and you will realise that they’ve gone beyond inventing a lingo to inventing a whole new language. Aadisht has obviously picked up this slang from the IIT Madras crowd in IIM Bangalore.
I’ll attempt a translation:
Maajorly – Majorly (extremely)
shadymax – shady to the extreme i.e. extremely questionable
arbit – arbitrary, completely random.
fundaes – a word made up out of “fundamentals” which means a bit of “gyan” or a dump of knowledge. Giving someone fundaes means explaining something to someone.
To find it funny, you have to be able to imagine an IITM guy say it – usually as a sarcastic compliment.
P.S. I like “Chocolate and Gold coins” too.
Michael,
This is a very funny and accurate guide to IIT Madras slang.
