Just to come to another cartel member’s rescue on the question of gun control, here is another question.
We don’t have to go all the way upto Switzerland to see the effects of lax gun control. There is a community in India that has special rights to carry guns (I think it was the British who made relaxed gun control laws especially for them).
They are an extremely martial race.
When a son is born in their community, they celebrate by firing guns. When a daughter is born, they ring a bell
They are known for their beautiful and athletic women.
They have the highest crime rate in India.
Pt no 4 is false. Chances are, you wouldn’t even have heard of them in relation to crime.
What am I talking about?
The Coorg people.
Gimme another one.
Yes! The Kodavas!
and the MadMan devours them all.
I think it is the Sikhs. I believe they have a special elite unit to protect their gurus or something, and are the only people who can carry firearms and daggers anywhere close to the President and the Prime Minister.
Ravages strikes again π
Yes it is the Kodavas (also known as the Coorgis) They are a martial race and have given us two (out of 3?) of our Field Marshalls.
I daresay Sikhs don’t commit more murders than the average when they are normal, but for a period they had this terrorism thing going. I wouldn’t give them as a counter-example to the hypothesis that lax gun control leads to more more crime.
Hmmm π
Why, I ask, Why does this happen to me, and only to me?
Why should I continue to make a fool of myself?
Ravages,
Step 1: Remove foot from mouth.
Step 2: Rinse
Step 3: Smile (with mouth shut)
Ravi, Field Marshal Cariappa was a Coorgi, but Sam Maneckshaw is a true-blue Parsi (who just happens to live in Coorg). Only 2 Field Marshals uptil now.
Ravages, unless you follow Yazad’s advice, you cannot aspire to be a member of the CapLib cartel. π
I was thinking of Thimmayya who was also a Coorgi.
Including Maneckshaw it makes 3.
Sorry it turns out I am wrong. We’ve had only two Field Marshals
Gen. K. S. Thimayya was not a FM.
But of course, individuals may mistakes, but the cartel is always right.

From Foot in mouth” to “Soap Suds in mouth”

its interesting how less people know about sikhs…
π
Owing arms and ammunitions has a religious significance for Coorgs/Kodavas/Coorgi’s.From time immemorial they have been carrying arms in their homeland. They have a festival called “Kailpoud”(roughly means arms’s worshiping festival). Its very much interesting to watch. If you ever get a chance to go in september to coorg, then do try to visit once.
The Brits just enforced a law which gauranteed them to carry firearms without a licence to make things easire and satisfy them.Even without that licence, they used to carry firearms.I think the indian govt still gives them this priviledge. Not to mention brits must have been only happy to do that, cause the Coorgs played a hugh role to get rid of Tipu Sultan, who had vowed in Mysore, that he will get rid of the Coorg Race.
A interesting thing to be noted is that ,it was the coorg deputation to the parliament, who were the only people, who entered the floor of the house in their traditional dress with something called peechakathi and odi kathi, arms. That was when Coorg was a separate part C state like Goa,and not a district of Karnataka.
They are a very fascinating and intriguing people to know about. Not to mention that deep coorg is nothing but pure heaven.
