This CNBC program has nicely used its telecast to harbor seeds of ingrained hatred that Indians in general carry amongst

This program cud have been titled “South India is well developed”, but by annexing the line “better than North India”
it has invited all these responses.
Guys, there are 2 types of people.
Group 1: If people in this group are told that someone else is better than them in a particular aspect,
they embrace it whole-heartedly and try to leanr from them in order to better themselves in that aspect.
Group 2: Blind against criticism, not willing to accept somebody else’s good points where they score over you.
I find that majority of the people who have responded on this forum belong to Group 2.
India as such is in much better shape now compared to what it was 2-3 decades ago.
But does that make India the No 1 country in the world. A big NO.
We still have a long way to go, together, to prove that we are capable of much more than what the world thinks of our capabilities.
In all aspects of life, India has a long way to go and achieve many many big things in future.
If all Indians stay united (which has never been the case), our country can leave even USA behind.
Some of the major issues that plague India :
1. Poverty
2. Lack of Education
3. Lack of Infrastructure.

The above factors apply to India as a whole and not to only one state or one region of India

Our country INDIA is like our Mother.
If the scalp and the hair represent Kashmir, the legs represent South India.
If the liver represents Maharashtra, the heart is represented by Bihar.
And so on.
Each and every part of our mother’s body are extremely vital to her functioning.
If the legs say we are better than the hands, it is not so.
If the kidneys say we are better than the abdomen, it is not so.
Imagine INDIA without South India, our mother wud be a crippled [without legs] mother.
Imagine INDIA without North India, our mother wud be a crippled [without arms] mother again.
So stop fighting cats and dogs on this topic.
Bhangra may be a good form of dance in itself, but to say it is better than Garba or an Odissi is foolishness.
Similarly to say South India is better developed than North India is foolishness.
Comparing Apples to Oranges is foolishness.
As shown in the recent movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’, each one of us are blessed with certain pluses and minuses.
The win-win situation lies in highlighting our pluses and minimising our minueses.
Nobody is perfect.
But it is more than 50 years now and still it is difficult for Indians to understand this little fact.
North Indians may be good in business and looks, but so are South Indians in Engineering/Medicine and Sophistication.

North Indians boast that they have command over business/enterprise, but unfortunately none of the Indian products
are capable of meeting International standards.
I wud be surprised if an Indian comes up with something like an i-pod or an i-phone.
India has always been a better consumer market rather than a product market.
Our exports are not something that we can boast of internationally.
They just meet our requirements and are enough to ensure that India does not go bankrupt.
Most products that are used in India are of Japanese or Chinese origin.[MobilePhones/Cameras/Ipods/other electronic items]
Even the concept of Delhi Metro has lot of resemblance with the BART transport system of San Francisco city.
Even the Delhi Metro project met with lot of resistance from our corrupt politicians.
The person who was behind the concept of Delhi Metro was threatened and warned of dire consequences while the project was
going on. Our politicians simply dont want any development or progress to happen. Mostly North Indian politicians.
India was on the verge of bankruptcy in 1980s because of high levels of corruption.
It was the sane and timely decision of Manmohan Singh, PV Narsimha rao and couple of other folks who devised and
enforced the 1991 economic liberalization policy, the fruits of which we are reaping today and we can atleast
hope of better economic progress till 2050 if things continue this way.
So the age old habit of Indians, ‘jab tak paani naak tak nahee pahuch jaata, tab tak kaam nahee kartey’.
Coming to South Indians, they are no less.
They think that IT is a great field and has hi-fi significance.
But most Indian IT companies have projects that are maintenance/testing or enhancement types.
We dont do innovative stuff here as well as abroad.
Very less investments are made in research or development fields, which are more demanding and appealing.
It is just that if you are in IT, you make money faster.
But intellectual wise, it is not something that we can again boast of.
Information Tech is of foreign origin.
We did not start Information Tech in India.
Though it is helping our young generation a lot.
But we have a long way to go till India has something like Google or a Yahoo, which represent complete innovation.
“Most” Indian movies are crap.. Be it Bollywood/South Indian/Bengali/gujju or Punju.
We dont make movies that can appeal to the international audiences.
Something like Jurassic Park or Star Wars or Troy.
Then how can we expect to win Oscars.
Last year Eklayva- The royal Guard was sent as an Oscar Nomination, but it failed to get the award.
Same applies in sports.
Karnam Maheshwari won bronze in olympics and that itself was an accomplishment for India.
How abt our cricket team…Too much hyped, aint it ?
Sania Mirza saves India to some an extent, but again she is more busy in catching media attention than playing the
sport.
Hockey is assuming some importance after people saw ‘Chak De India’.
The basic problem is that we Indian tend to be happy/contended/complacent most of the times.
Salman Khan was a promising lad who went on to become the 7th most handsome man of the world,
but after he got the title he stopped concentrating on making it big further and too much arrogance and
nasty behaviour spoiled his career and personal life terribly.
Sridevi was the only Indian actress approached by Steven Speilberg a decade ago. He felt she had the appeal
to become an internation star and he was ready to cast her in Jurassic park.
But again ‘Madam ke nakhre’. Before even she stepped in Hollywood, she made statements that if she leaves Mumbai
it wud be a permanent adieu to Bollywood and Indian cinema. Arey yaar pehle jaakar dekho to sahee.
Pehle se hee itna aasmaan mein kya chadhnaa….She felt at cloud nine even before even she made a foray into Hollywood
Some of our actors have acted in Hollywood movies, but none of them are remembered and none of them can match the
international appeal of the Hollywood stars. Yes A R Rahman saves India to some an extent.His music is borrowed
into Hollywood/European flicks.

I have studied in an REC. Even though getting into IIT/REC is a tough job, but no sooner people get there they forget
their actual worth. How many IITians work in India ? I guess very few of them. Most of them are busy looking for
MS or a PHD in US/Europe and green card++ dreams. How many of our budding engineers really contribute to our nation
just like APJ Abdul Kalam or Vishveshvarya… How many IIM graduates are willing to work in India… All of them
want i-bank jobs in New York/London. We lose the cream to outsiders. This is the real story of India
But I have worked in India and now I am in USA.
Frankly speaking, we can make the same money what we are making abroad, back in India
But there is a big difference in work culture in India and in USA.
Plenty of nonsense stuff goes on inside offices back in India
Performance is not rewarded to that extent or rather not recognised to that an extent.
People have plenty of jealousy, plenty of ill-feelings and hatred towards each other, such that they forget the fact
that they are in Office to work and they are not in Indian parliament.
Mud-slinging, leg-pulling, criticism, anger, frustration, comparisons, regionalism, nepotism and many other vices
assume greater importance
than “performance”.
This is also one of the reasons for brain drain.
In USA, I found the work environment to be better and much more employee friendly and performance oriented.
Again this may differ from person to person.
Back in India, people like Arjun Singh are always hell bent on destroying the elite institutes.
Now an IIM-Shillong has come into picture and also new IIT proposal at Bihar and AP are confirmed, which is good
and a tough punishment for people like arjun singh who are not worth being an HRD minister.
He hails from Madhya Pradesh where he has already destroyed REC Bhopal by introducing goon culture and plenty
of corruption, nepotism and crime inside the college. Is this what India shud be like ??
So dear folks, before pointing fingers at each other just think for while that we are still a developing country
and not a developed one and we have many issues which need to be combated back home.

As a person who has spent time both in North Indian and South India, I have certain observations.
Myth :North Indians are not receptive of South Indians at all.
Facts:It is not that North Indians are completely biased against South Indians.
The facts/statements are purely related to Bollywood and South Indian filmdom.
South Indians complain that Chiranjeevi,Kamal Hassan,Rajnikant and Mohanlal were not treated well in Hindi cinema
Some more southern stars also complain the same…I am not sure abt the name of that hero[The guy with big moustaches
who has acted opposite Karishma Kapoor in ANARI]
Now my dear southies, why do you forget the fact that Sunil Shetty, Shilpa Shetty, John Abraham and Aishwarya Rai are also South Indians.
Has Bollywood/Northies ever complained or made racist remarks against them as compared to what they make against
Rajnikant or a Chiranjeev.
The fact is that up in the North it has always been a battle field. The Northies see a powerful bodybuilder as
a true hero and easily accept him. Sunil Shetty hails from Karnataka, though he is settled in Mumbai.
Sunil Shetty is dark[typical of 60% Southie men], short and not handsome. BUT BUT BUT He is a macho.
His physique is unique and is always appreciated by the big wigs of the industry.
Aftab Shivdasani and Akshay Kumar [ Both North Indians ] once made a statement on ‘Sahara TV’ that they hold Sunil Shetty in high esteem
when it comes to male fitness and they hold Shilpa Shetty in high esteem when it comes to female fitness.
I have never come across any North Indian who has ever made any stupid remark against both these Mumbai bred Shetties
that they are Madrasis or they are ayyo amma types or they are fat and ugly, with big moustache.
Again Bollywood/North Indians have never complained against Aishwarya Rai[Kannadiga] or John Abraham[Half Mallu and Half Irani]
See Southies, you need to understand that being a hero means a lot more than just acting.
North Indians see someone powerful, macho/muscular and brow-beating as someone who is fit to be a hero, because they have
always involved in warfare and have always been on the Power front.
Coming to some more actors, Kamal Hassan and Madhavan, to a great extent recieve appreciation from Northies.
But this is to a limited and urban class of North Indians.
And not to forget the list of South Indian women who made it big in Bollywood for years together.

and also the latest Deepika Padukone. So it is not that Northies are completely against Southies.
They are ready to accept them if they come in the correct package/form.

wud have never been offered work in Hindi cinema.
South Indians accept good performances over good looks/build and thatz where comes the difference.
A lot of off-screen work in Southern Cinema is superior in quality to the works done at Bollywood.
Yet when it comes to Financial Muscle Power, Global Reach, Marketing and Entertainment Index, Bollywood rules.
Till date it has only been tamil and telegu cinemas which have offered some form of competition to Hindi cinema.
Other regional industries[Gujju/Punju/Oriya/Assamese/Kannada/Marathi/Bhojpuri] have either vanished or become defunct.
Bengali and Malyalam cinema produce classic works which mostly belong to art/parallel cinema.
Examples of parallel cinema in Hindi Film industry [Arth,Salaam Bombay,Umrao Jaan,Ijaazat,Mandi]
Naseeruddin Shah,Farooque Shaikh,Om Puri,Shabana Azmi,Smita Patil,Nirmal Pandey were some of the finest actors of parallel cinema of
Bollywood.
Unfortunately, people from the North do not get to see masterpieces of Malyalam or Bengali Cinema and hence they never get exposed
to the other side of Indian cinema where beauty, rather than commercial acclaim, lies.
South India has always been cut off from warfares. Though they have also engaged in warfare, but to a large extent they

Myth : South Indians are Dravidians and North Indians are Aryans.
Facts : This fact was propogated by the British in 1882 to break the Indian empire further.

People in South India are dark because they face harsh summers and their proximity to Equator.
But again around 30% of North Indians might be dark in complexion[ both men and women ] eg. Ajay Devgan

Send all people of North India to the South and they will turn dark.
Send all people of South India to the North and they will turn fair.
Complexion of our skin in depedenant on Melanin, climate exposure, genetic factors and as I stated

Facts : India wud have never become independent had there been no world war 2.
The British were not in a position to rule anymore.
They went back happily coz they had a bigger task to be undertaken and that was : Looking after Great Britian after it
was economically and politically shambled after the World War ended in 1945.
It wud not have been a big surprise if India wud have still been a slave to the British, had it not been for the World War.
A similar analogy can be drawn from the slavery of Afghanistan to Soviet Union.
Soviets entered Afghanistan in 1981 and by 1990 soviet troops started moving out.
America had planned to interevene in the affairs of USSR, but it got busy with Iraq war.
After that nobody had the time and energy left to rule Afghanistan and thus afghans got liberated from USSR in the early nineties.
Now if some nerd says that Afghans got independence because of the Talibans, he is no doubt a fool.
Same logic applies to North Indians who can be compared to the talibs here.
Even to this day Brits make fun of Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in UK.

I’m not surprised that North Indians are living in the dust bowl of poverty compared to the South. This is due to the centuries of invasions they endured. The North took a lot of the hit that the south got minimally. It is no wonder that today, the North of India is almost crippled. As south Indians, we should try our best to understand them. Unfortunately, there is a deep seeded animosity between the north and South mainly due to the North pushing it’s language and culture on the South.
Anyway, regarding the debate on whether to use “would” or “will”….. put that all in the trash please. First, make sure our Indian children know their own language, be it Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Punjabi, etc. I could care less for “would” and “will”. So I beg all you Indians living abroad, please teach your children their mother tongue. Don’t let them forget who they are.
